Yes it’s a chain, but this isn’t your typical Mexican chain restaurant! I’d describe this as “Mexican, Elevated.”
Having been raised in South Texas, I know my way around Mexican food. There are all sorts of variations and flavors to choose from; Cali-Mex, Tex-Mex, New Mexican, etc.
Abuelos fits a niche that - so far - I haven’t really found any others do.
All the basics are here if you like, but do yourself a favor and look through the entire menu. Try something other than enchiladas or tacos.
My personal favorite dish is the Stuffed Chicken Medallions. Chicken breasts rolled and stuffed with a blend of spicy chorizo, Poblano petter and cheese, then fried and sliced into medallions. Scrumptious! Try it with the Papas con Chile; a creamy blend of whipped red potatoes, red and green peppers, green onions, four different cheeses and sour cream! OMG!
