In 1991 Silk Threads by Ruby Bhandari began to provide exclusive Designer wear, Bridal and Menswear for the South Asian market nationwide. Silk Threads also supplies casual high-end women's tunics and t-shirts to about 400 stores in US, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean (and now in Lebanon, Germany and Jordan!).
Ruby was born in New York and raised in Austin, Texas. Silk Threads was created while Ruby was still pursuing her degree at the University of Texas. After first designing for herself and friends and family, Ruby realized that there was an underserved market as the South Asian-American community continued to grow.
After a few years, Ruby decided to open her own manufacturing units in
India to control and maintain the level of service and quality
workmanship that she had come to demand, as well as work with a few
selected designers to provide exclusive designs to her clients.
