The “Bishop Arts District” is a popular and well-known retail neighborhood in Oak Cliff, filled with fun shops and local eating and drinking spaces. Chan Thai is tucked away around the corner from the main drag, and so may not be getting as much attention as it deserves - and I want to change that!
Chan Thai is the sister to Pho 88, and indeed the two restaurants are connected by a doorway inside. Also, they share a pleasant covered patio across the front of the building!
It’s always a reliable place to have a relaxed dinner in a pleasant, quiet atmosphere with prompt service. On this trip, I had the Sesame Chicken (crispy breaded chicken breast morsels with a delicious sweet sesame sauce, served with mixed veggies and steamed rice) and my dining companion had the Pad Thai (Thai noodles, egg, bean sprouts and green onions, sprinkled with peanuts). My request to substitute the wide noodles for the rice was graciously accommodated (I just love those wide noodles!).
Looking over the menu, I noticed a few other things that I decided I simply MUST try on future trips: Pecan Crusted Tilapia, the Spicy Chicken Salad and Asian Basil Chicken, to name three!
And now some poetry: Chan Thai; give it a try!
